You do not need to be in crisis
People attend individual counselling for anxiety, grief, stress, low confidence, relationship concerns, anger, parenting, identity or a sense of being stuck. Others want a regular reflective space while navigating change. There is no requirement to wait until a concern becomes severe.
What happens in a session?
The counsellor listens, asks questions and helps you notice patterns that may be difficult to see alone. Depending on your goals, sessions can include emotional processing, practical coping strategies, communication skills, values exploration and planning for situations outside the counselling room.
The first appointment
A first session usually covers what has brought you to counselling, what you would like help with, relevant background and how confidentiality works. You can ask questions and decide whether the counsellor’s approach feels like a suitable fit.
How long does counselling take?
There is no universal number of sessions. Some people attend for a focused period around one issue; others value longer-term support. The frequency and direction should be reviewed together rather than imposed.
